- In 1999, a 17-year-old gymnast bouncing on the sofa at her birthday party was killed when she lost her balance and bounced out of the window of a sixth floor flat in Berlin.
- Boxing was televised for the first time on this date in 1933 when Archie Sexton and Laurie Raiteri fought an exhibition match at the Broadcasting House in London.
- In 1997, Edinburgh Zoo reported that it had been using sunscreen on Penguins during a freak spell of hot weather. The heat had caused the birds to moult excessively leaving patches of bare skin.
- Lunar Orbiter 1 took the first photograph of Earth from the Moon on this date in 1966.
- In 1974, John Lennon reported seeing a UFO in New York.
- Arial, a rare albino Lobster was stolen from a tank from Newquay Sea Life Centre on this date in 2000. Barbecue remains were later found on the beach.

- In 1991, in Lansing, Michigan, 250 gerbils chewed their way out of shipping boxes and scampered through the airport. Most were picked up and adopted by airport visitors.
