10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 3 June:
- Born on this date in 1865 was George V, King of England from 1910 to 1936. He ruled during the First World War and changed the family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor in 1917. He advised, "Always go to the bathroom when you have a chance."
- In 1969, the last episode of the original Star Trek series was broadcast.
- In 1949, Elvis Presley got his school report. He got an 'A' in language but only a 'C' in music. Exactly four years later in 1953 Elvis graduated from J.C. Hulmes High School in Memphis; his graduation photo shows him with his trademark split curl in the middle of his forehead. He was the first member of his family to graduate high school.
- In 1970, Ray Davies flew from New York to London to re-record one word in the song Lola. Because the BBC banned commercial references in songs so "Coca Cola," had to be replaced with "cherry cola" for the UK version.
- A party led by Captain James Cook observed a transit of Venus in Tahiti on this date in 1769. Transits of Venus are rare, coming in pairs, 8 years apart, separated by approximately 120 years.
- In 1965, Edward H. White became the first American astronaut to walk in space. He spent more than 30 minutes outside spacecraft Gemini-IV.
- In 2003 Barry Manilow walked into a wall at his home in Palm Springs, California, knocking himself unconscious and breaking his famous nose.
- The first ‘Bikini’ bathing suit was unveiled in Paris on this date in 1946, invented by Louis Réard, a former motor engineer. He named it after Bikini Atoll where atomic bomb tests were being held because he thought the two-piece bathing costume would be ‘highly explosive’.
- In 1978, The Guinness Book of Records entered the Guinness Book of Records – as the most stolen book from British Libraries.
- Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her golden jubilee on this date in 2002. Sir Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, Ricky Martin, S Club 7, Sir Cliff Richard, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue, Atomic Kitten all performed for her. The Queen wore earplugs. Meanwhile in Combe Martin Devon, residents held a record street party, 2.2 miles long, with 800 trestle tables.
The Power of Love
Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic ordering and the significance of chance encounters. She believes there's a spiritual explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.
A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.
Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.
When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
