10 April

10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 10 April:

  1. In 1988, a dog died as a result of watching a television programme, in China. In a violent scene in an East German film, a long-haired man leapt out of bushes with a shotgun; the dog howled with fear, ran about in all directions and finally died of a heart attack.
  2. In 1999, a wedding took place in a supermarket. Tracy Marshall and Wayne Bowler tied the knot in the children's wear department of the Asda superstore in Sutton.
  3. In 1633 the first Bananas to be seen in the UK were displayed in the London shop window of one Thomas Johnson.
  4. In 1977, a Japanese trawler hauled in a carcass of what appeared to be a plesiosaur, an extinct sea reptile. Sceptics said it was actually a type of Shark.
  5. The Safety pin was patented in the US on this date in 1849 by Walter Hunt of New York, but he later sold the rights for $400.
  6. In 1790, the first circumnavigation of the globe by a US vessel was completed. Captain Robert Gray had departed Boston three years earlier aboard the Columbia, and sailed to the Pacific Northwest. From there he sailed to China with a cargo of Sea otter skins. He continued around Asia and Africa, then returned to Boston on this date.
  7. In 1848, 250 people died in a bridge collapse in Yarmouth, England. They had gathered on the suspension bridge to watch a clown boat be pulled by a flock of Geese.
  8. In 1999, a burglar was trying to break into a boutique through a skylight window by bending the bars and jumping through the gap, when his sweater caught on the bars and strangled him.
  9. Big Ben, the bell in the world's most famous clock, was cast in London on this date in 1858. The 12-tonne bell was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, the Commissioner of Works.
  10. In 2013, an Arabian Camel, which had been presented to President of France François Hollande for liberating Mali, was killed and eaten by the family in Timbuktu in whose care Hollande had left it.

The Power of Love

Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic  ordering  and the significance of chance  encounters. She believes there's a spiritual  explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into  mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of  her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.

A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.

Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.

When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
