11 April

10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 11 April:

  1. Today has been a good date for the births of people who made great discoveries in the medical field but who had other interests on the side. In 1755, it was James Parkinson, the English doctor who discovered Parkinson's disease. He was also one of the first to give a scientific account of fossils. In 1899 it was Percy L Julian, a chemist who produced drugs for the treatment of arthritis, a synthetic progesterone from soy beans, a cheaper form of cortisone, and also a chemical foam for fighting fires.
  2. This date in 1034 saw the death of Romanus III Argyrus, Byzantine emperor. His last name is Greek for "Silver". He was either poisoned by his wife or drowned in his bath on her orders. The manner of his death differs by account, but one thing we can be sure of is that Mrs Argyrus was not someone you'd want to get on the wrong side of.
  3. In 1689, William III and Mary II were crowned joint monarchs of Great Britain by the Bishop of London. The Archbishop of Canterbury had refused to officiate.
  4. In 2006, Winnie the Pooh received a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  5. In 1997, Nature reported that scientists had levitated a Frog using a magnetic current.
  6. In 2013, scientists found a rare Dinosaur egg with the remaining fossil of an embryo in China.
  7. In 1998 Norma Wickwire, a grandmother from Inverness, Florida had surgery which made her a record breaker. She'd had a record 8 of 10 of her major joints replaced since 1976: both hips, both knees, both shoulders, an ankle, and an elbow. She was dubbed the Bionic Grandma.
  8. In 2014, a woman was arrested for throwingShoe at Hillary Clinton's head as she was giving a speech in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  9. In 1997, the South Pacific Island of Tokelau became the last country in the world to install a phone system.
  10. In 2011, authorities in Tajikstan banned divorce by text message.

The Power of Love

Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic  ordering  and the significance of chance  encounters. She believes there's a spiritual  explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into  mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of  her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.

A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.

Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.

When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
