25 April

10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 25 April:

  1. On this date in 2008, the Empire State Building in New York was lit up in lavender, Pink, and White, in celebration of Mariah Carey's achievements in the world of Music. She was the first person in history to be honoured in this way.

  2. In 1684, a patent was granted for the Thimble.

  3. In 1886, Sigmund Freud opened his practice at Rathausstrasse 7, Vienna.

  4. In 1507, the name "America" in reference to the New World appeared in print for the first time when German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller published Cosmographiae Introductio. At the time, Waldseemuller believed the first European to explore the area was Amerigo Vespucci, so he named the new lands after him. When he found out it had actually been Christopher Columbus who made the discovery, Waldseemuller tried to change the name, but it had already caught on.

  5. In 2010, Princess Beatrice of York became the first royal to complete the London Marathon.

  6. In 1850 Paul Julius Reuter, founder of the news agency, used 40 Pigeons to carry stock market prices between Brussels and Athens.

  7. In 1324, an entry in the Journal de la Chambre of King Edward II shows a payment of a few pence to one "Robyn Hod" for service to the King.

  8. In 2007, aides to US president George Bush were told they couldn’t book a luxury five star hotel suite for their boss because Mick Jagger, on a world tour with The Rolling Stones, had already booked it.

  9. In 1928, Buddy, a German Shepherd, became the first Guide dog for the blind, presented to new owner Morris S. Frank.

  10. In 1989, Ilona Staller, Italian stripper turned MP, released a white dove to symbolise the departure of Soviet troops from Hungary. Rather than fly away, however, the bird sat in the middle of the road and was run over by a tank.

 The Power of Love

Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic  ordering  and the significance of chance  encounters. She believes there's a spiritual  explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into  mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of  her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.

A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.

Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.

When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
