- American writer Maya Angelou was born on this date in 1928. Her books include I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Gather Together in My Name, The Heart of a Woman and All God's Children Need Travelling Shoes. She wrote, "People will forget what you said; People will forget what you did; But people will never forget how you made them feel."
- This date in 1968 saw the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He was assassinated by a sniper in Memphis, Tennessee where he'd gone to support a city sanitation strike. He was leaning over the balcony on the second floor of a motel, talking to colleagues on the ground floor when he was shot dead by James Earl Ray. His assassin escaped, but was later caught in London.
- In 1993, Willie Murphy, a 61 year old employee of the Golden Peanut Company in Donalsonville, Georgia, was killed when he was crushed under an avalanche of Peanuts.
- In 1981, Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision song contest in Dublin, Ireland with the UK entry Making Your Mind Up.
- In 1581, Francis Drake returned to England having circumnavigated the world. Queen Elizabeth I dined on board his ship, the Pelican, and, after dinner, knighted him.
- In 1981, Susan Brown, Oxford’s first female cox, led her crew to victory in the annual Boat Race by eight lengths.
- The discovery of gold in the Yukon was reported on this date in 1896 and the gold rush began.
- In 2007, Michael and Karolina Tomaro of Sweden fell foul of the authorities because they wanted to name their baby Metallica, after the rock band. Tax officials said the name was "inappropriate". Under Swedish law, names must win the approval of authorities before they can be used.

The Power of Love
Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic ordering and the significance of chance encounters. She believes there's a spiritual explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.
A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.
Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.
When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
