10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 12 December:

  1. This date in 1915 was the birthdate of Frank Sinatra, American singer and actor, nicknamed old blue eyes. He had many hits including Strangers in the Night and My Way. He once said, "I'm for anything that gets you through the night, be it prayer, benzedrine or a bottle of Jack Daniel's."
  2. Born on this date in 1731 was Erasmus Darwin, scientist, genius and grandfather of Charles Darwin. He invented a speaking machine which could trick people into thinking they'd heard someone saying "mama" or "papa", a copying machine and a carriage steering system. He was the first to explain how clouds form and to describe photosynthesis in plants. He was so fat he had to have a half-circle cut out of his dining table so his huge stomach would fit, yet, he also became the first Englishman to fly in a large-sized hydrogen balloon.
  3. In 1957, Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin, Myra.
  4. In 1792, Ludwig van Beethoven, 22, received one of his first lessons in music composition from Franz Joseph Haydn in Vienna.
  5. 1989 Billionaire Leona Helmsley, who said, ‘Only the little people pay taxes,’ got her just desserts on this date in 1989. She was fined $7 million and sentenced to 4 years in prison for tax evasion.
  6. In 1915, the first all-metal plane, made by German aircraft builder Hugo Junkers, took its maiden flight.
  7. The first prototype of a Hovercraft was patented by British engineer Christopher Cockerell on this date in 1955.
  8. In 1712, the South Carolina colony passed a "Sunday Law" requiring "all...persons whatsoever" to attend church every Sunday, to refrain from skilled labour, and to do no travelling by horse or wagon beyond the necessary. Non-compliance was punishable by a 10 shilling fine and/or a two-hour lock-up in the village stocks.
  9. In 1907, New York passed a rule forcing women to sign an affidavit attesting to their age and good character before they could get married.
  10. In 1957, the USA announced the manufacture of Borazon, a substance which is harder than Diamond.

A Superhero love story.

Sent away to school to get her away from undesirable company, Agnes finds herself homesick and lonely. A brief connection with Jason Warner leads to the teenage crush to end all teenage crushes. Jason is barely aware Agnes exists, but she plans her whole future around him.

It is only when they meet again as adults that the connection becomes mutual; but before it can develop, Jason makes a discovery which rocks his entire world. He needs time alone, away from everyone, including Agnes. When Jason is finally ready to go back to his old life, Agnes has moved on and he cannot find her.

Agnes is now a single parent to the remarkable Seraphina. The Power League want to harness Seraphina's powers for evil before the Freedom League become aware of her. Agnes has no idea her new colleague and friend is a supervillain with his own agenda, and his willingness to babysit is not as innocent as she thinks. As Incendio starts teaching Seraphina to use her powers, the Freedom League intervene. Little do they know that they have found one of their own.
