4 September

10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 4 September:

  1. Navigator Henry Hudson discovered the island of Manhattan on this date in 1609.
  2. In 1954 Elvis Presley made his début at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, the only time he ever appeared there. The audience were so underwhelmed that the Opry's manager, Jim Denny, told Elvis he should go back to driving a truck.
  3. In 2002, Kelly Clarkson became the first winner of the US TV show American Idol.
  4. In 1639, Massachusetts passed a law, outlawing the drinking of Toasts. The law proved to be unenforceable and was repealed in 1645. I'll drink to that.
  5. In 1912, 22 people were injured in the London Underground’s first accident, when two Piccadilly Line trains collided.
  6. English astronomer Edmond Halley discovered his Comet on this date in 1682.
  7. In 1965 The Who had their van stolen. There was over £5000 worth of equipment inside when they parked outside Battersea Dogs Home. The band were inside the home at the time, buying a guard Dog.
  8. In 1997, John Wayne Bobbitt threatened to sue the plastic surgeon who re-attached his penis after his wife cut it off, claiming it was, wait for it, “cock-eyed”.
  9. In 1904, the St. Regis Hotel in New York became the first to have individual air conditioning and heating in every room.
  10. In 1888, George Eastman of Rochester, New York, received a patent for his hand-held roll-film camera, and registered his trademark: Kodak, which he chose purely and simply because he liked the letter K.

I write Fiction, too.

There is a whole new universe of superheroes to discover in my novels. The Ultraheroes Universe includes at least one alternative dimension, good guys, bad guys, secrets, romance and more.
