Born on this date in 1944 was one Richard Frank Oznowicz, who became better known as Frank Oz, the puppeteer (including voices), of Jim Henson's Muppets. His characters have included Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Sam the Eagle, Grover and the Cookie Monster. He is also well known as the person behind Jedi Master Yoda in Star Wars.
In 1878, Gilbert/Sullivan's opera HMS Pinafore premièred in London.
In 1998, the Cheese rolling at Cooper's Hill Brockworth, Gloucs, was cancelled because 27 people had been injured in 1997. Health and safety had ended an annual contest dating back to pre-Roman times.
In 350 BC, Agnodice became the first woman to qualify as a gynaecologist. In order to gain the qualification, she'd disguised herself as a man so she could study with the famous physician Herophilos. Rival doctors would later call her "one that does corrupt men's wives." Faced with charges of rape, Agnodice revealed her secret. Her patients defended her and declared that if she was executed for being a woman practicing medicine, they would all die with her. Agnodice was acquitted, and allowed to continue her medical work and wear men's clothing.

It's been a good day for climbing Everest. In 2001, Erik Weihenmayer, aged 32, of Boulder, Colorado, became the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, and Sherman Bull, 64, of New Canaan, Connecticut, became the oldest person to reach the summit. Bull's record was surpassed on this date in 2013 when Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura reached the summit Mount Everest at the age of 80.

The Power of Love
Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic ordering and the significance of chance encounters. She believes there's a spiritual explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.
A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.
Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.
When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
