This date in 1946 saw the birth of one Cherilyn Sarkesian La Pierre, better known to most of us as Cher, the American singer and actress. Her films include Moonstruck and Witches of Eastwick. She was one half of the 1960s duo Sonny and Cher, whose hits include I Got You Babe. She once said, "The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing—and then marry him."
In 1999, five people suffocated after climbing down to a well one after another to investigate why a drainage pump had stopped working, and why the people who'd climbed down to investigate hadn’t come back. The operation of the pump had filled the well with carbon monoxide and other noxious gases so each in turn suffocated.
On this date in 1845, Robert Browning paid his first visit to Elizabeth Barrett, an invalid confined to a bedroom by her father.

In 1588, the Spanish Armada left Lisbon, Portugal, to invade England. With about 130 ships, it was considered the mightiest naval fleet of its time. However, the English fleet was faster and better armed, the Armada made strategic mistakes, and the weather was not in their favour, so the Armada was defeated.
It's been a significant day for Shoes. In 1310 Shoes were made for right and left feet for the first time, and in 1825, moccasins were patented.
In 1913, the first Chelsea Flower Show was held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, attracting around 200,000 visitors.

The Power of Love
Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic ordering and the significance of chance encounters. She believes there's a spiritual explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.
A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.
Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.
When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
