On the 200th day of the year, 10 things you might not know about the number 200:

  1. 200 companies control a quarter of the world's wealth.
  2. The number 200 is mentioned in the Bible when King David went out with his army and killed 200 Philistines and presented their foreskins to Saul in payment for permission to marry his daughter.
  3. 200 is the smallest unprimeable number in base 10, meaning it cannot be changed into a prime number by changing just one digit.
  4. Typhon the Titan in Greek mythology had 200 Eyes.
  5. In computing, "200 OK" is a code indicating a successful connection to a server.
  6. South Park and Stargate SG1 both have episodes entitled 200.
  7. The flower head of a Dandelion produces 200 seeds.
  8. An early experiment in Electricity was performed by Jean-Antione Nollet, who was the first professor of physics at the University of Paris, and also the abbot of a monastery. His experiment to demonstrate the speed of an electric current was to ask 200 monks to stand in a circle holding metal bars, and pass a current through them.
  9. A celebration of something which happened 200 years ago is a bicentenary.
  10. The year 200 was a leap year, which began on a Tuesday.
