15 February

10 weird and wonderful things which happened on 15 February:

  1. Johann Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz was played for the first time on this date in 1867, at a public concert in Vienna, Austria. At first, the Waltz was rejected by the upper classes because it had been developed by peasants and was seen as too erotic. By the early 19th century, however, it had been completely accepted by everyone.
  2. In 1969, a Florida woman was arrested for impersonating Aretha Franklin during a concert. Vickie Jones' impersonation had been so convincing, however, that nobody in the club asked for a refund.
  3. On this date in 1925, London Zoo unveiled a plan to install lights to cheer up the animals on foggy days.
  4. In 1932, US bobsled team member Eddie Eagan became the only athlete to win gold in both the Summer and Winter Olympics (He'd won a gold for boxing in 1920).
  5. It was on this date in 1971 that Britain changed to a decimal currency system after 1,200 years of pounds, shillings and pence.
  6. Think streaking is a modern phenomenon? Think again. This date in 60 BCE saw Mark Antony run naked through the Forum on the Feast of the Lupercal.
  7. In 1903, the first Teddy bear was introduced in America. It was made by Russian immigrants Morris and Rose Michtom.
  8. YouTube, the Internet site on which videos may be shared and viewed by others, was launched in the United States on this date in 2005.
  9. In 1995, 3 US Presidents, Gerald Ford, George Bush, and Bill Clinton joined Bob Hope in a foursome at the "Bob Hope Classic" golf tournament.
  10. This date in 1954 saw the birth of Matt Groening, cartoonist and creator of two successful television series, The Simpsons and Futurama. He once said, "Love is a perky elf dancing a merry little jig, then suddenly he turns on you with a miniature machine gun."

A superhero love story:

The Power of Love

Willow believes in crystal healing, cosmic  ordering  and the significance of chance  encounters. She believes there's a spiritual  explanation for everything. Except she struggles to find a reason why she can turn herself into  mist and create a wave of energy which can slam a would-be mugger into a wall. Or why the love of  her life left her for a mysterious woman in sunglasses, who then disappeared without trace.

A chance encounter with Firebolt, leader of the Freedom League superhero team, in a Glastonbury coffee shop, does turn out to be significant. He offers her a new start and the chance to use her powers for good.

Servant is a Christian who has joined the Freedom League in order to use his teleporting power to serve God. He and Willow clash from the start, yet they are drawn inexorably to one another.

When Willow leaves the team abruptly for reasons unknown, Servant knows he must put her out of his mind and find a nice Christian girl to settle down with. He is about to propose to devout and straight-laced Ruth, when Willow returns and turns his entire world upside down.
