- Taurus was the first zodiac sign to be established by the ancient Mesopotamians. They called it “The Great Bull of Heaven”. Since the Sun rose in this constellation in the Spring, it was important in the agricultural calendar.

- The mythological story comes from the Old Babylonian epic tale, The Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh spurns the advances of the goddess Ishtar, so she sends Taurus the Bull to kill him. The bull is killed by Gilgamesh's companion Enkidu, who tears off the bull's hind legs and throws them into the sky.
- Taurus is an Earth sign, ruled by the planet Venus.
