On this date in 1639, the US's first prohibition law, outlawing the drinking of toasts, was passed
in Massachusetts. Here are ten things it would have been illegal to say.
- Here's to staying positive and testing negative.
- May the best of our past be the worst of our future.
- To our wives and girlfriends. May they never meet.
- May we be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows we're dead.
- Here’s to those who wish us well, all the rest can go to hell.
- May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends gathered below never fall out.
- We don’t always get what we want, we don’t always get what we like, just as long as we don’t get what we deserve.
- May all your troubles during the coming year be as short lived as your new year resolutions.
- May you live as long as you want to, and want to as long as you live.
- To your very good health. May you live to be as old as your jokes.
