Wanting to use his considerable talent at martial arts, Kane applied to audition as a combat team fighter in the martial arts category. He made it through to the final, only to be beaten at the last minute in a three way tiebreaker. Auditions in the sharp-shooter category were being held the same day, and Kane was able to watch some of this contest. Here, he befriended Gyro, the runner up in the sharp-shooter contest.
