29 August: John Locke Quotes

John Locke, philosopher, founder of the school of empiricism, was born on this date in 1632. Some quotes:

  1. The most precious of all possessions is power over ourselves.

  2. What worries you, masters you.

  3. Who lies for you will lie against you.

  4. Wherever Law ends, Tyranny begins.

  5. Don't let the things you don't have prevent you from using what you do have.

  6. There is frequently more to be learned from the unexpected questions of a child than the discourses of men.

  7. A sound mind in a sound body, is a short but full description of a happy state in this world.

  8. Success in fighting means not coming at your opponent the way he wants to fight you.

  9. Try all things, hold fast that which is good.

  10. He that will make good use of any part of his life must allow a large part of it to recreation.
