1. Born on this date in 1632 was Sir Christopher Wren, English astronomer and architect. His best known building is St Paul's Cathedral in London.
2. The construction of St Paul's Cathedral in London was completed, on Sir Christopher Wren's 76th birthday on this date in 1708.
3. In 2001, at London Zoo, Jim Robson, a 40 year old keeper, was crushed to death by 3 female Asian Elephants, Dilberta, Mya, and Layang-Layang.
4. Former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy married Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis on the island of Scorpio on this date in 1968.
5. Muffin the Mule (a wooden puppet operated by Annette Mills, sister of Sir John Mills) first appeared on BBC TV on this date in 1946.
6. In 2002, at Yoshinogari Park, Saga, Japan, 2,400 people made the world's longest sushi roll. The roll consisted of 10,000 sheets of dry seaweed, 1,000 kilograms of dry grain Rice, 750 sticks of yellow daikon pickled Radish and 22 kilograms of shiitake Mushrooms. The final length of the world's longest sushi roll was 1,825 meters or 5,988 feet.
7. In 2012, the Scottish village of Glenelg was twinned with a geographical feature on Mars with the same name.
8. The Branch Davidian cult believed that their leader, David Koresh, who died after a police siege at their Texas ranch, would return to Earth on this date in 2000. Needless to say, he didn't.
9. In 2005, Michael Jackson was called for jury service in California four months after he was acquitted on child molestation charges. A spokesperson said it was likely he would be excused from serving due to the fact that he'd lived in Bahrain since his trial.
10. In 1966, Eryl Mai Jones, aged 9, told her mother she had dreamed that her school could not be found, because “something black had come down all over it”. The following day, she became a victim of the Aberfan disaster, caused by a landslide of coal waste.
